Pompeii, the first stop of the private tour

Pompeii is a site visited by many tourists every day because it is the third most popular site in Italy. We will stop in Pompeii for about 2 - 2 1/2 hours for the visit of the archaeological site.

You can request a tour guide who will accompany you on the tour and will explain in detail all the popular areas that came to light during the excavations, which began at the end of the 17th century, and which continue to this day: the last great discovery is a harnessed horse that came to light near the Villa dei Misteri, which belonged to a commander and is rich in frescoes in the famous Pompeian red.

If you prefer you can visit alone providing yourself with audio guides that are available to hire.

Vesuvius – the second stop of the tour

The driver of My Positano Limo will take you to the top of the volcano, symbol of Naples, through a scenic drive from where you can admire a fantastic view of the city and its suburbs.

When you reach the top of the volcano, you can buy the entrance ticket to the Vesuvius National Park. From here, you can stroll through the paths that it is made up of, a total of 11 paths with a total length of a 54km walk, and go up path number 5, the one that will take you to the ‘Gran Cono’ and that leaves from the Piazzale situated at an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level. The views from this trail will give you a fantastic experience. It isn’t every day that you walk along the crater of an active volcano which last erupted in 1944! The crater is currently 450 metres in diameter and is 300 metres deep.

To walk the path, you must be accompanied by expert Alpine and Volcano guide from the Campania region. With the guide, the climb continues with a quiet walk for about 800 metres and is rewarded by a series of panoramic and suggestive views, along the various curves.

Herculaneum – the third stop of the private tour

In Herculaneum, the last stop on the tour, we will take the road that comes from the Gran Cono del Vesuvio that the driver will follow to take you to the third stop of the private tour to Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius and Herculaneum.

The archaeological excavations of the city of Herculaneum, the famous Roman city founded by Hercules according to legend, was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD, along with Pompeii and Oplontis, although not as famous as those of Pompeii, have been declared a UNESCO world heritage site and are visited by an average of 300,000 tourists every year.

In the excavations, we recommend that you visit the Casa del Genio, the Casa d'Argo and the Casa d’Aristide, which was discovered during the Bourbon period, when the explorers used it as a passage to the nearby Villa dei Papiri.

In addition to the excavations of Herculaneum, there are infact many villas like the Villa dei Papiri or Villa dei Pisoni, named after its owner, Lucio Calpurnio Pisone, father-in-law of the famous leader Julius Caesar.  Inside this villa’s library, discovered by accident in 1750 during the construction of a well, 1,800 papyri were discovered. A great curiosity is that Paul Getty, the famous American millionaire, had a reproduction of this villa built in Malibu, which he used first as a private residence and later as a museum dedicated to himself. At the end of the tour, we will have time to enjoy a typical Neapolitan sfogliatella dessert and sweetly end our private tour of Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius and Herculaneum.
