The city was buried in 79AD because of an eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that dominates the Gulf of Naples. Plinio il Giovane narrated this eruption describing it in detail. It lasted three days and deposited several metres of eruptive materials on Pompeii.
In the ruins of Pompeii, you will be able to admire the buildings excavated throughout the years as well as: the Villa dei Misteri, the Casa dei Vetti, the Casa del Fauno, the taverns and even the Foro and the famous Lupanare, the brothel building that was unearthed in 1862. The visit to the excavations lasts about 2 - 2 1/2 hours and ends with the return to the port of Salerno.
